- Nappa feels premium but needs care and costs more.
- PU/microfibre is consistent and affordable — ask for abrasion test data.
- Perforated leather suits hot climates and ventilated seats.
- Vehicle-specific patterns with airbag-safe seams matter more than material.
Seat covers are judged on touch, fit and how they age. Material choice shapes all three, as well as price and suitability for hot or cold climates.
Nappa leather
Nappa is soft, full-grain leather with a refined feel. It suits premium vehicles and executive vans, but needs conditioning and costs more.
PU and microfibre leather
Synthetic leathers are consistent, easy to clean and cost-effective. Quality varies widely, so ask about abrasion and peel testing.
Perforated and breathable leather
Perforation improves airflow and works with ventilated seats. It is popular in hot climates such as the Gulf, Australia and southern US states.
Fit matters more than material
Vehicle-specific patterns with airbag-safe seams look factory-fitted. Universal covers are cheaper but rarely satisfy premium buyers.
- Ask for the seat configuration your pattern covers (5, 7, 8 or 9 seats).
- Confirm side-airbag seam construction.
- Request colour swatches before production.
